Photos We lost this space because of an arrogant and short-sighted Council

This once beautiful meadow was graced by Her Majesty The Queen in 2012.  With 127 acres to choose from the Council ruined this scenic area. Before this development it was used regularly by many diverse groups of people: Football training, Rounders, local Scouts and Guide groups, the Dog Show, would-be tight-rope walkers, casual picnickers, disabled groups and craft events.  Nowadays it is just another business environment serving drinks and meals and a meeting place for dog owners.  The diversity of use has gone.  The land drainage has been ruined by bulldozed banks to prevent the brook flooding but leaving the enclosed meadow as a quagmire in winter.

Although the building that stands here was ‘sold’ to the public as “office /kitchen/ workshop/ storage/education/ meeting room/ tea room and public toilet” for the Rangers there was no clear indication that the majority of this building would not be for the Rangers but would be run as a Cafeteria business.  So the bulk of the building is a commercial enterprise that is now proposed to be extended by 52 sq metre.  The whole commercial complex could have been built elsewhere away from this once idyllic setting once deemed good enough for Her Majesty.
