Six Trees Felled

Video of the felling of one of the

Maple trees

Contrary to the claims of the council that this building would be ‘nestled’ into the park, they proceeded to Chop down healthy, mature trees. Not long after this a massive solid raft of concrete was laid for the foundations

January 2018 - More Tree Felling

January saw a further tree felled near the Rangers Centre and Cafe.  This adds to the Maple and Birch trees that were axed in 2014 and is contrary to SSDC promises that: “the entire development will be designed and constructed with an integral 'green agenda', one of the key project concepts, which has informed many of the design decisions”.

Clearly when trees become diseased or dangerous then they must be felled. But here healthy trees have been axed too. The original SSDC Design and Access Statement promised to ‘replace or replant woodland components’. However, this site has seen 7 trees axed without replacement.

Further, it should be noted, that the insidious encroachment of development appears to be spreading further along this meadow. How far will SSDC go with this after their promise, in 1988, that once Goldenstones was built no further development would take place.
