After Construction

In 1988, South Somerset District Council promised never to build here. Now they have!

Watchdog tried to draw attention to the way in which the Council has pushed ahead with its plans despite fierce local opposition when the project was first mooted.

NEVER FORGET

Yeovil Town is now left with this ecologically unsound and unattractive building on what was a truly beautiful meadow fit for our Queen. Watchdog believes it is important that the facts are recorded, lessons learned, and hopefully future Council developments will be scrutinized with vigour.

The cost of  this building in 2010 was projected to be £353,000.

What are the measurements this building?

How high will it be in situ?

What did the meadow look like prior to construction?

Where will it be and was there an alternative site?

Why are people upset and what’s the history?

What was our opposition campaign all about?

Why were alternative sites dismissed?

Trees already lost at this beauty spot

Cement production creates co2 greenhouse gases

There is unlikely to be any further publicity about the way in which South Somerset District Council misled the general public from day one of the planning of this development. Did you know that the eco-friendly, co2 absorbent materials, specified for the Rangers Centre have been abandoned? Landscaping was promised but look how it’s been left after one year…..

What’s changed structurally:

        GONE:   ModCell Lime construction

        GONE:   Straw bale walls

        GONE:   Clay Tile Roof

IN:     Concrete block walls

IN:     Concrete Tiles
